“Get Your House in Shape” Advent Calendar: December 18th – 25th

Ah, the holidays. Some love them. Some loathe them. Some fall somewhere in the middle. However it is you feel, there’s no doubt that gearing up for Christmas can be stressful. The last thing you really need is to worry about your home not being in tip-top shape when company comes for dinner, a holiday party or to stay for a week!

Below is a list of quick tasks you can do from today through Christmas to help make your upkeep schedule a little easier.

Sunday, December 18th:

It’s crunch time…one week until Christmas! Go through the bonus room, office and/or kid’s rooms and pick up anything that is out of place. This is the time to keep things tidy!

Monday, December 19th:

Finish up any holiday baking you’ve started. Package up cookies and breads that you’re planning to give away and set them aside. Then put on a Christmas movie and relax.

Tuesday, December 20th:

Clean out your fireplace(s). Leftover ash can be messy and add more dust in your home. It can also stain your carpet, so be careful when your fireplace! Use a small broom and dust pan to scoop out ash and have a vacuum handy to pick up anything that falls onto the hearth. Oh, and while you’re at it, take a minute to check the water in your Christmas tree!

Wednesday, December 21st:

Time for a final and thorough cleaning of your bathrooms. Grab your cleaners, scrubbers, gloves and paper towels. We know this is your least favorite chore, but it’s best to do it now before time gets away from you!

Thursday, December 22nd:

Vacuum and dust all of the main rooms in your home. The end of this cleaning calendar is nearing!

Friday, December 23rd:

If you’re entertaining, iron the linens and set the tables. Put out all of the platters and bowls you will need for the following day(s). Prep whatever you can in the kitchen as well. Finally, wipe down the kitchen counters, appliances and be sure to sweep or vacuum up any messes that have been made.

Saturday, December 24th:

Your home should be nice and clean, so all you have left to do is get the presents under the tree! If you’re not expecting guests, bake some cookies for your family! Yum!

Sunday, December 25th:
